History of The Boys' Brigade in Sacred Heart
- The first Boys' Brigade company was set up by Sir William Alexander Smith on 4th October 1883 at Free Church Mission Hall, North Woodside Road, Glasgow, Scotland to develop 'Christian Manliness' by the use of semi-military discipline and order, gymnastics, summer camps and religious services and classes.
- In the years following the establishment of 1st Glasgow Company, others were rapidly formed throughout Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom leading to a movement comprising thousands of Boys.
- In the 20th century, there were about 2200 companies connected with different churches throughout the United Kingdom, the British Empire, the United States with 10,000 officers and 100,000 Boys.
The Boys' Brigade in Malaysia
- The Boys' Brigade was introduced to Malaysia in the year 1946.
- The first BB company in Malaysia is 1st Penang Company which was found by Robert Davis.
- The 1st BB Pesta in Malaysia was held in Kuala Lumpur in the year 1966.
- On 5th December 1964, the Boys' Brigade in Malaysia (BBM) was formed.
- BBM is now divided into 4 districts. They are Northern, Central, Southern and Borneo Districts.
The Boys' Brigade in Sarawak
- The 1st BB company in Sarawak is 1st Kuching Company which was found in the year 1961 by Mr. Charles Henry Ingka.
- The first BB company in Sibu is 1st Sibu Company which was found on 22nd June 1968 by Reverend Chris Tomlinson.
- In the first recruitment, about 50 Boys joined the first meeting.
- The first Captain of 1st Sibu Company is Reverend Chris Tomlinson.
- This company is sponsored by Wesley Methodist Church.
- The 1st Sibu Company Brigade Band was officially sounded in December 1969.
History of The Boys' Brigade in Sacred Heart
- Formed in 1989 when Mr. Samuel Tan Yan Pheng was the principal of the school.
- During the first recruitment, around 30 Boys joined the company.
- SHS Boys' Brigade is under 1st Sibu Company which is sponsored by Wesley Methodist Church.
- Mdm. Angela Wong was the Teacher Advisor and Officer-in-charge from 1990-1998.
- In 1999, Mdm. Ling Nguok Sien took over as the Teacher Advisor and Officer-in-charge. Now, she is the Teacher Advisor.
- In 2008, W/O Lau Shiew Ping was appointed as the Teacher Advisor and also as Officer until now.
- In 2011, during the Enrolment Thanksgiving Service, W/O Lau Shiew Ping has been promoted as Lt. Lau Shiew Ping.
